Vantec Nexus NXP-305
Product Review
Vantec NXP-305 is a product for a niche market. PC Mod is a fast growing industry in the past few years.
Vantec Nexus NXP-305 is born to satisfy BOYers. You’ll find the product preview and specification below. Before we go any further, here are some fundamental things you should know about this product.
Introduction:
If you Nextag or Google the keyword NXP-305, you’ll find several product previews and some online merchan ts who carry this product. The fist thing you notice is that
Vantec did a horrible job in terms of pushing their product.
Of course BestBuy or CircuitCity won’t carry product like this (they don’t have that kind target audience). But you can’t even find this product at
MicroCenter or CompUSA which are the heavy weight stores in the BOY industry. In other words, you can find this particular product via online and the worst part is it won’t be available at the 1st tier online store such as Amazon. You can only get this product at second tier online merchants such as
newegg.com, TigerDirect or Buy.com. (The difference between 1st tier and 2nd tier is you don’t have to deal with RMA carp when shopping at 1st tier online merchants.) If you keep digging, you’ll find more online stores carrying this product but most of them don’t even have their own checkout system. It means you’d bear more risk than shopping at
eBay or Amazon Market Place.
Pricing and Availability:
The average price for this product is $29.99. If you add shipping, you’ll end up paying over $35 before tax depending on where you live. Now, here’s the key. Why would anyone spend $35 USD for a fan controller? People don’t usually buy a luxury e rasable blackboard with converter kit to fit in their car’s backseat. I’m trying to say is, it’s not an essential device such as HDD enclosure or USB card reader. It’s a freaking fan controller which you can DIY by drilling a hole on the front panel and installing a switch to achieve the same result without paying more than $2. Here’s an
article shows you how.
Having said that, keep in mind that this device is for niche market, I end up need this device because:
1. I hate to drill a hole on my shinning Asus 3600.
2. I have to have a fan controller which has the option to shut down the fan completely.
3. I have to have a device to fit in the 3.5 bay instead of the 5.25 bay.
4. And finally, this device has to NOT look like a
family made product.
After several weeks extensive
online research, I conclude that NXP-305 is the only solution.
